I bought this book to be introduced to the system of Americans Clinical and Counseling Psychology at all and, to get information regarding different psychol. programs, and the process of applying-enrolling into the Universities. The main part of this book dedicated to reports on individual Clinical and Counseling Psychology programs, which looks like list of Universities and their requirements and statistics like recommended courses, GRE and GPA means, % of student receiving, Research areas and so on..Book also contains a lot of tips and advices, like for example, interview's strategic, letters of Recommendation (with samples), format for Curriculum Vitae, even worksheets for choosing programs, for Assessing Program Criteria and for Making Final Choices..etc..A lot of links to the Internet-resourses, where you can find an additional information about accredited programs and so forth.. I found it really very useful.The only one point which a little bit disapointed me (that's the only reason for 4-stars rating) - the lack information about Master's programms. So, this guide will be great for those, who plans to get PhD or PsyD. Or for undergraduate student, because it give the basic introducing information as well, too.

This is a very helpful book. If you're looking for a specific program or school this book probably has it. If you're just looking to see what schools are available with various counseling programs this is your book. The breakdown of what each school has to offer is incredible and it is organized in an easy to use way. Also, the first 1/4 or so of the book is a step by step guide for you to follow. From choosing a discipline to taking the GRE to choosing a school. It has contact numbers and web addresses for each school and statistics about each school. Very good book for the grad school shopper.

I bought this book to help me with the process for applying to graduate school for psychology. It's been a while since I've seen the book, but I guess it helped during the time.

As someone without much prior knowledge about the post-graduate scene for psychology, I was hoping for more information on master's programs. I realize now that master's programs are somewhat irrelevant in the field, but they do exist and I would have appreciated a bit more elaboration on them.To be sure, this is a very thorough and well-composed book. But it is useful for planning your doctorate, not your master's.

This book is really helpful, and I just love the point system that helps you calculate your likelihood of getting into a particular program. The only problem I have with the book is the APA accredited programs list--it's a little incomplete. It's better to go to the APA website for that. Overall, a good buy!

My son and I are using this and so far we LOVE it. He almost begs me to do WWII because this book is so well written. My son is 11. The activities are pretty fun and engaging and I have to say that we go pretty slow with the book because we keep talking about all of the information and getting deeper into discussions. Very good pick to get your kids into history.

This is a great book for engaged children who want to learn more about this complex topic. My husband read it aloud to our elementary school aged children and they (and he!) thoroughly enjoyed it. Not surprisingly, reading about WWII sparks more questions than answers and we found that it was necessary to read with our children despite their full ability to read more lengthy texts independently. Well worth the time!

My 7 year old nephew is a history buff and I purchased this for him for his WWII themed birthday. It's challenging to find WWII themed items that are appropriate for children. I was happy to see that this book had lots of wonderful photographs and illustrations along with ample factual information to make him happy.

This was a Christmas present for a friends son. He is into military and his favorite war is WW2. He was not able to keep his head out of the book once he opened it. He was reading while walking out the door when it was time to go home. Its a great book. Extremely informative and the activities give kids a better understanding.

This was a comprehensive book but it contains way too much text for the average child. It said it is for ages 9 and up but I'd say it's more for 12 and up.It seems to me to be more appropriate for adult TEACHERS to use as a supplemental guide when teaching WWII. There are some interesting activities included.

My 10 year old grandson loved this book. I gave it to him just before he visited some of the D-Day sites in Normandy.

My 7 year old Grandson loves history. This was a great purchase for him. He really enjoyed reading about the war.

This is such a great quick supplement to help me with my Tort's outline. I would not recommend using this as your ONLY supplement as I do fine the crunch time versions of the emanuel outlines skip over some parts of the course that your professor may have put particular emphasis on. Other than this one caveat I think its a great buy.

The CrunchTime series is a lifesaver for law school exams, I highly recommend it as a supplement. When you're sick of playing "hide the ball" and just want the black letter law, this book teaches you what you need to know fast and in several different methods.

Good summary...even if have full version, this has lots of flow charts full version does not have.If you do casebook readings, then skip full version and go with this one.

Wow. I’m adding this to my list of ‘books to re-read’. I really liked this book. It covers the lives of two women at a point in time where the concepts of feminism are starting to get traction. The author covers feminists, both male and female, in the book, and it’s fascinating to read about the different options to open to women of the time. I recommend this very highly.

Elizabeth Goldsmith's The King's Mistresses is a fast-paced yet serious, empathetic yet solidly researched, close look at the lives of the Mancini sisters, nieces of the famous Cardinal Mazarin who more or less ruled France for a generation during the minority of King Louis XIV. Both were richly but unhappily married and fled their husbands in a time when society simply did not recognize the right of wives to leave even the most bizarre of male-owned households.Their story is told with grace and erudition in an enthralling tale of two arranged marriages gone bad, narrow escapes from domineering and brutal, borderline crazy husbands, a Europe-wide cry for understanding their plight, and the life-long bond of sisterhood in both wealth and misery. Readers will be frustrated at the extent to which a husband's authority over his wife was protected even by those who, like Louis XIV himself, had every sympathy for the unhappy sisters trapped in unholy matrimony. Kings appear (including Louis XIV of France, Charles II of England, and Carlos II of Spain) not to mention queens, regents, cardinals, dukes and counts galore, yet by analyzing and quoting the hard-to-find letters of the sisters themselves and their friends in depth, Goldsmith brings us so directly and so closely into the personal lives of these three-centuries-dead noblewomen that it seems at times as if she were writing the biography of two infamous women who just died in this last decade. Indeed, the Mancini sisters seem to speak at times directly to us.A triumph of the marriage of good story-telling biography and judicious scholarship (a marriage far happier than that of the poor Mancini ladies!), Goldsmith's The King's Mistresses will bring to life, with a modern feminist awareness, a rich and true tale of two sad lives of two noble sisters from long ago. The Mancinis will enter your mind easily, but they will linger there long after the book's last pages have been turned...

The book reads almost like a soap opera script, for one can't believe the ups and downs of these two women, sisters, and their lives. Although born into the aristocracy, neither woman had it easy, for women had so few rights back then. They are bartered by family members for power, and their marriages aren't for love but for social--political connections. You couldn't pay me enough money to want to live as a woman of the aristocracy in the 18th century. Their lives were not their own as this books shows quite well. I felt sorry for Marie and Hortense, yet I also got tired of them too for they seemed to make the same mistakes throughout their lives.I was drawn in by their story, so good writing here.

This is an intriguing book and the result of some excellent research. As the other reviewers have well explained, these two sisters defied all the rules of the day to fight for their independence, particularly from their obnoxious and cruel husbands. In the process they somehow managed to become mistresses of the two great kings of the period: The Sun King, Louis XIV of France and the famous/infamous but always delightful Charles II of England. They fled across Europe to evade control of their possessing husbands. You will be both amazed by their stories (they were always brave but not always wise) and learn a great deal about those interesting times. If you have any interest in English/French/Italian/Spanish history of the period, don't miss this book.

I liked that it gave the reader a different view of how women managed in days past.

Genuinely modern women. On a historical note, I was surprised to read just how Italian Cardinal Mazarin was.

Ms. Goldsmith does true justice in bringing to life the stories of two women who had the courage to pursue their own independence and freedom at a time when wives were considered property of their husbands. She helps the reader to understand the historical, political and social context of the day so that the reader gains full appreciation for the sacrifices and obstacles these women overcame. We come to admire their sheer guts and willingness to go against social norms of the day, and they do so with vitality, cunning and no shame. These two were true pioneers of the feminist movement - kudos to Ms. Goldsmith for not letting these incredible women become minor footnotes in history!It is important to note that this is not a historical novel, but rather a well-organized dissertation of Marie and Hortense Mancini as might be expected of a university professor author.
