An excellent book.....when young, one is hardly aware of the differences that power politics can make in how realities can be portrayed. While there is a tendency to believe that there can only be one real truth, political experience shows us that there often many sides to a political coin...that truth is all-too-often only in the eyes of the beholder. Politics too often operates at several different levels making "truth" a relative thing dependent on the level of view. It was sad to see the Polish who gave so much to support a higher truth, fall on the horns of a reality that they could not and would not accept. Yalta was a shabby yet real arrangement between men who had their own very different ideas of the "truths" they desired and would hold too. I learned a great deal about real politics and just how difficult it is to live with honor and real sacrifice. In the end, the large laud it over the small and honor is given short consideration all-too-often. The Polish military people who fought so valiantly for a cause that included their own ended up victims of a new reality that left most of them behind. Shameful yet a reality of life. If one lives long enough it is very easy to become very cynical. I loved the book.

I hadn’t realized how skilled the Polish airmen who fought with the RAF were, compared to the initially-inexperienced Brits. I also didn’t fully comprehend how Roosevelt and Churchill so badly abandoned the Polish nation in the endgame of the war, leaving it to the viciousness and cynical politics of Stalin and the Soviets.

As a Polish Refugee (born in a refugee camp in Augusdorf, Germany in 1949 to Polish parents)I was spellbound by this book. As a kid, my parents would discuss the various people named in this book. They spoke of betrayals and how Poland was sold out. I was the “intelligent” teen aged kid who knew more than his parents and couldn’t believe the content of their discussions. I was so proud to become an American citizen that I changed my first name from Henryk to Henry. After all Henryk was just too Polish. Well after reading this book, I proudly tell people that my name is Henryk Pietrzak. Coincidentally, if you google my Polish name, Henryk Pietrzak, you’ll get a picture of a WWII Polish Fighter Pilot who was an Ace. I am not related to him, but I wish I was. He flew as a member of a Polish Squadron with the RAF. I recommend this book to everyone. First, it sets the record straight and secondly it describes true heroism, courage, and honor. I am proud of these Polish Airmen and am embarrassed by their shabby treatment by Roosevelt and Churchill.

I was given a hard copy of this several years ago and am loathe to lend it out. Happily I found it on Amazon in paperback and sent two copies to friends. I am a military historian of sorts having attended USMA and this is one of the best war/political histories of WW2. It covers far more than the exploits of the Polish trained pilots that helped save England in the Battle of Britain. It recounts the Soviet/Polish historical animosity before, during and after the war. It also cronicles the appalling treatment of the Poles as a political football before and after the War. The question of honor applies to both the Polish who upheld theirs and the allies who betrayed them on many fronts.

In this book the authors debunk a number of strongly held myths concerning Poland and her role in WWII. The story is told through the actions of several Polish airmen who served with the RAF in the Battle of Briton but the actions of other Poles both military and non-military aren't neglected. If you read this I am convinced your opinion of Poland and the Polish role in WWII will be profoundly altered. They say history is written by the victors and in this case Russia triumphed once again over Poland. Poland has been portrayed as at best a pitiful backward victim and at worst a mere footnote in this war. Some of the key facts the authors bring to light:* Polish airmen in the Battle of Briton were the true "air aces" at times accounting for 30-40% of the downed German planes. Queen Elizabeth II "If Poland had not stood with us in those days...the candle of freedom would have been snuffed out".* The Polish military men who left Poland (and there were 100,000 of them) after the Nazi defeat in 1939 traveled thousands of miles to get to the Allied lines. Typical travel stories had these men going through Rumania, down to the Mediterranean and then into North Africa before arriving in England or Free France.* The Poles never stopped fighting the Nazis. The Polish resistance forces were deemed the most effective by Allied HQ. No other country in Europe suffered, proportionally more damage and casualties in the war. Poland lost 20% of its population v. 11% for Russia, 7% for Germany and less than 1% for US and Britain.* When people refer to the cities of Europe devastated in the war - London, Dresden, Coventry, and Hamburg, no one ever mentions Warsaw which was leveled when the Poles revolted against the Nazis in 1944-45. An uprising totally unsupported by any Allied help.* Polish spies obtained the Germans' Enigma coding machine and Polish cryptographers helped break the ciphers. This wasn't revealed until the 1970s.* The Free Polish Army under Allied command was the 4th largest armed force (US, Britain, Russia) on the Allied side. Larger than the Free French Army! They played prominent roles in several Allied campaignsI could go on with this list but don't want this review to be too long. This book despite the facts crammed into it reads very well. Individual acts of bravery and valor are juxtaposed with events at the national level. The time period where the Polish airmen were "the Glamour Boys" of England is a great period piece. The first two thirds of the book are inspiring and a fun read as new revelations about Polish military feats are presented. The last third of the book where Poland is excluded and betrayed by the Allies in the post war decisions made at Teheran and Yalta was a harder read for me. The Allies (Britian, US and Russia) insisted that France have an equal share in the post war decisions but excluded the Poles despite their many contributions to the Allied victory. The irony!! Poland who fought to the end sold out and France who barely fielded an army rewarded, ugh. The last comment I'd make is the strong character, loyalty and love of country of the Poles is an integral and moving part of this story.

Wow! I've often wondered how near death experiences would be described by a Latter Day Saint. Now, I know. His description is entirely consistent with other near death experiences, yet presented from an LDS perspective.Now, the visions of the last days prior to the second coming are both disturbing and hopeful. Yet, those too are consistent with earlier visions by even John Taylor, for instance. And, a copy of his vision ad others are included in the Appendix.A volume well worth the investment of time and money, in my opinion.

Reading this book was amazing spiritual journey. We know through Revelations in the bible there will be incredible devastation in many forms in the "last days", and we catch a glimpse of some of that possible devastation in this book. But the book also shares an incredible hopeful outcome. It resonated with me.

We are taken on a journey unlike any other, into the world of spirits, and filled with a love so profoundly deep and pure that we simply cannot deny these visions. Thank you, John Pontius, for sorting through and clarifying Stewart's unmatched experiences -- for what it did for him and for all that it can do for us as we embrace and ponder a reality that is totally new!

Husband and I both loved reading this book. Our Son-in-law recommended and we're so glad we bought our own copy. Like the author says, the visitions he received are well documented in other places, but we both think that some were specificaly for him, which we could discern. Lots to learn here.

This book is really helpful for a wide variety of child behavioral problems. I purchased the book when I found all our local child therapists were booked up. What I learned by reading this book was much more useful than expensive therapy appointments.Obviously every child is very different but if your kid's behavior is driving you nuts, you will find SOMETHING in this book that will help you achieve quick results.If nothing else, you'll feel some relief by reading about parents that inevitably have it worse than you. After just 10 pages, you'll find yourself saying 1) that's a really useful technique and/or 2) wow! at least my kid's not THAT messed up compared to that kid in the example on page x... ;)

I recently attended a lecture by Dr. Golstein at Harvard. I picked up this book since I work in the mental health field with children. The book reveals the manifestations of anger and gives clear scenarios for parents on how to resolve and handle anger situations with their children. Drs. Goldsein and Brooks provide great examples to help parents help children succeed at school and at home. This is an excellent book for teachers as well.

Sometime later I was able to hear Bob speak at a student leadership conference and I was just in awe of him.Why do I find Bob Goff so fascinating? Because he lives life with such passion and zeal. His love seems so authentic. He is not just putting words on the page or speaking goodwill to the masses. He is capturing life at its fullest and throwing it back to us.I am very cynical person. I typically view Christian authors as opportunistic over authentic, but with Bob, I see genuine love for all.Everybody, Always is a perfect follow up to Love Does. The book is full of amazing stories and beautiful calls for action. This book is a great challenge for a guy like me, who can become numb and disillusioned with the world.I highly recommend this work to everyone. And, of course, here are some amazing quotes:“Love isn’t something we fall into; love is someone we become.”“Loving people means caring without an agenda.”“What a shame it would be if we were waiting for God to say something while He’s been waiting on us to do something.”“Most of us don’t need more instructions; we simply need someone who believes in us.”“We don’t need to be the hero in everyone’s story. Faith-based nonfiction is typically one of my favorite genres, and after seeing all of the crazy amazing reviews and ratings this book was getting, I knew I had to snag this one up. Not to mention, this book has a super gorgeous and vibrant cover, which always makes for a great bookshelf addition!I have to say, though, this book was a real miss for me, as much as it pains me to admit that. I wanted to love it so much, but I just found myself disconnecting from the author more and more as I progressed further in the book. I do want to try another of Mr. Goff’s books before I completely write him off as one of my potential authors to follow, because I feel like this one just didn’t hit the mark for me, but others might.I know the author surely didn’t mean to present himself in such an off-putting way, but the examples he gave throughout the book of his showing love to others were very hard for a common person to identify with -- from his visits overseas, to his handing out tickets to Disneyland, it was so hard to identify with how he lives life. Was he showcasing what it means to love others, always? -- you bet. I have no doubt that Mr. Goff is a precious soul who consistently wins others over to Christ, and for that I can’t thank him enough, or say enough wonderful things about what his character must be like. For me, though, the chapters were written in such a way that I lost track of the good that Mr. Goff was doing, and instead focused more on how impractical it would be for most people in our society to be able to accomplish such good deeds.

BUT, I’ve never wanted to share a book with you more than I want to share “Everybody Always” by Bob Goff.I read Bob’s first book, “Love Does,” a few years ago. It is lovely and wonderful. “Everybody Always” is even more so.We’re attempting to navigate this seemingly polarized world of scary events, differing opinions, and difficult people. It’s hard, but this new book is going to bring such a light to the readers, and those the readers choose to love.I’m not overstating it when I say that while reading his books I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, and I’m learning to love better.You’re going to love reading Bob’s experiences and nuggets of wisdom.

Have been savoring this book, allowing myself only one chapter every few days. Finally finished it and I so wish there was more. Cried in nearly every chapter. Bob Goff is one of the most inspirational people alive, and so humble.I’m not Christian, or religious at all, so as you can imagine, I don’t read a lot of books about Jesus. (Like almost only Love Does.) There’s a lot of Jesus in this book. And a lot of religious teachings. Yet even for someone like me, the messages are beautiful and resonant and I agree with all of them. I just don’t use the same words or imagery. And I didn’t feel wrong for being different. Whoever you are, you can feel the love coming through in this book. For you and for everybody, always.And Bob Goff should win an Oscar or Pulitzer or whatever you get for storytelling. But that part of the award is for the life you had to live to have the stories to tell.

I was first introduced to this lovely author Bob when I read "Love Does" and I enjoyed reading every bit of it. When I heard of Everybody, Always... I knew I had to get my hands on this.The first few chapters already had me laughing to myself silly and then within the few minutes, reaching out for the tissue box. Anyone who reads what Bob writes would agree that he has a way to "hook" you into his world and experience what he went through - with so little words and yet in a deep and profound manner.Bob manages to convince me that no matter who we meet, they are fighting a battle you know nothing about (as the quote goes) and because of that, we are to love everybody, always. Especially those who you disagree with. And that's the main crux of Jesus' ministry. He taught us to love the sinner, not the sin - always!

this was my favorite piece of architectural writing from both 2014 and 2011, when it was published as an english translation of a 2011 non-english text. beatriz preciado (now paul preciado) expands the disciplinary limits of architectural history and theory to critically engage corporate domestic architecture as a counter to the common mythology of the immediate postwar and neoliberal eras of american economic development that posit an ever-increasing preoccupation with privatization. not so, preciado argues, by claiming that "playboy" magazine and its corporate domestic spaces were tools that opened up the private onto public life. i may be kind of tired of reading about biopolitics, but this book reinvigorated my interest in that disciplinary node and once again led me back to "saint foucault." i'm not sure if this result is entirely good, but preciado builds upon the work of architectural historian-theorist beatriz colomina's 1994 "privacy and publicity" and 2006 "domesticity at war" by proving the sorts of thorough, meaty historically grounded and specific analyses of a subject Other Than Major Name Architects in order to demonstrate how architecture is one of many mass media.
