Review

"Finally, a book about homeschooling written for dads! Kent Larson does a superb job. If you're a skeptical dad, this book will help you to make a more informed decision. I didn't want it to be over." -The Contemporary Homeschooler"This book is authentic and straight-forward. 12 Homeschooling Myths Debunked speaks primarily to dads who are concerned homeschooling will ruin their children (as the author once did), but it's useful for anyone wanting to understand the realities of home education. Kent's humor and down-to-earth approach make this book a fun and easy read!" - Kirsten McTernan, Author of Homeschooling: You CAN Do It! mcternan.com

I loved every minute of this book! In just two sittings, I devoured the whole thing. The author has a friendly wit about him that kept me engaged as I read through 12 of the most common homeschooling myths. I like that he is frank and also respectful of different viewpoints including those who choose traditional school. Larson breaks down each myth talking about common perpections, such as lack of socialization and limited college options, and shows how homeschooling can actually provide your children greater opportunities and not less.I think this is a great book for dads but also for any family considering homeschooling. It is a fun and affirming read for families who are already homeschooling.

If you are thinking of homeschooling but have reservations, this book is a great resource. If you are seriously considering homeschooling but have family that thinks you're crazy, this would be a great book for both of you to read.12 Homeschool Myths Debunked is a fun, quick, yet highly informative read that addresses 12 common fears related to schooling at home. Larson doesn't just rely on personal experience and anecdotal evidence while discussing myths such as "What About Socialization?" and "Acadmics Will Suffer", but includes data from academic studies as he examines whether these myths are actually true.Larson does a great job of addressing these common concerns and demonstrating the benefits of homeschooling while remaining respectful of other schooling options. Many who are skeptical will appreciate that he is not trying to convice anyone to choose homeschooling, and even discusses when more traditional paths may be a better choice.Instead of letting fear of the unkown or lack of knowledge be your guide, pick up this book and make an informed decision as to what is best for your family. You won't regret it!

If only. If only this book had been written back when I was investigating homeschooling 13 years ago. I could have been spared the anxiety and second-guessing of my part in the family decision making process. Instead of peppering with questions the few parents I knew that actually were homeschooling, this book could have answered all those questions for me.Kent has catalogued the main myths and stumbling blocks that most Dads encounter when investigating the world of homeschooling. The anxiety relieving answers given are so helpful in breaking down the most common barriers to really seeing the positive aspects of homeschooling. Before you let non-homeschooling parents sway your judgement regarding this major decision, I strongly suggest you take this quick journey with Kent to truly see if homeschooling is the best option for your family.

In summary, whether you're a total homeschooling hater, or a skeptic, or even slightly curious and interested or you're frantically looking for options after pulling your kids out of public school, this book is FOR YOU!! It also makes a great gift to the person who tells you - "I can never homeschool my kids" - which I still hear on a regular basis. I used to sweat bullets when I had to continue the conversation after hearing this claim from my friends and family, or even from a total stranger - but NOT ANYMORE thanks to this book!!My first impression is that it's concise and to the point, drama free as most men like to process their information. Each myth is debunked separately - with no drama, no religion, and no personal attachment - though the author briefly discuss his own 'unbelief' in each myth, but they are kept logical and concise, which I really appreciate - I can imagine that most men appreciate it too. With that said, I thoroughly enjoy the bonus material (which is only available in Audible format) as well as the author's personal journey in the 2nd half of the audio. If the myths weren't debunked first, I wouldn't have enjoyed listening to the personal journey and the religious debates/thoughts portion at the end. Whenever I speak to homeschooling families, I usually try to find out what's working for them and what's not - and the journey each family makes to reach where they are at - so I really appreciated the author taking me through his personal journey, from being totally against homeschooling to a total supporter.I know this book was written primarily for men, however, I wish this book was available 1.5 years ago when I was searching for resources regarding homeschooling. It was daunting and scary due to these myths and I was unsure where to start - coupled with the biggest fear of ruining my child's education. I felt different from the rest of the homeschooling family because I was a working mom, so I didn't think reaching out to other moms would help since I thought all homeschooling moms stay at home. This book is great resource for working moms - because the issues these women face are somewhat similar to dad's, especially regarding time and resources needed. Again, thanks to Kent Larson the author for having the courage to share his personal journey and thoughts to benefit all of us!!!

I was so happy to find this book! I have homeschooled for almost 20 years and now run a homeschool resource center where homeschooled kids can take classes, so I do a monthly homeschool information meeting and I agree 100% with the points in the book, in fact, they are normally all the things I cover in my Homeschooling 101 meetings. The one thing I hear more than any other is, "I know this is the right thing to do, but how can I convince my husband?" I will be sending them all the link to this book for sure! Well-written and easy to read, not just for dads, but anyone who wonders about homeschooling. Thanks Kent for writing it all down!
