I have no experience in French at all. I'm more knowledgeable in Spanish, and English is my native language, so to say I'm a newbie is an understatement! This is a pretty short read with fifteen short stories, but they're each rich in vocabulary and phrases. Something I think language books lack in are useful phrases in conversation a textbook might overlook a person using. I love using stories as a way to learn the language--it feels like you're really learning instead of merely memorizing. What I liked most about this book is that each story is split into paragraphs with bolded phrases defined underneath, and there is a complete list of all the bolded phrases and words at the end of the story. This is nice because there isn't any flipping back and forth and losing my spot on my Kindle.I think it would be helpful to have a little background in French, such as basic vocabulary and grammar (which I think anyone interested in this book will know), just so you can get more out of this unique reading experience. If you've recently picked up French and are looking for a little challenge, I would recommend this!

English translation is provided with each sentence which makes learning a lot quicker.The MP3 audio files are a fantastic bonus to help you learn proper pronunciation and accents by native French speakers. The best part of the audio files for me was the ability to listen to the audio files in fast or slow speed!I would recommend this book to anyone needing a good brush up on prior learning or even to novice travelers looking for a quick and easy way to learn common, everyday vocabulary.
I love this book! Teaching French through stories is genius! It kept me interested and was easy and fun! I speak and read Portuguese and Spanish, but I had no previous experience with French. It taught me vocabulary, words, phrases, and introduced me to conversations in French – all within stories! Way more enjoyable than rote memorizing, plain vocab lists etc! The key vocabulary words are included near the stories for easy referral, so it was easy to follow along and understand the story line without knowing French beforehand.I would also recommend downloading the audio that is available in the book. After reading I downloaded the audio and listened while following along. It has two speeds available- a slower one for beginners and practicing your pronunciation, and a faster one for listening at normal speeds. Now I know how to pronounce many French words and phrases, and I can continue to go back and practice. It also prepared me to be able to understand people speaking French, along with the written French.This book makes it possible to practice the vocabulary, listen to the French language, read and hear conversations, and understand stories written and spoken in French. I am definitely impressed with the quality of this book! I never thought it could be so easy and accessible to learn basic French conversations, and to understand French stories!Also included in the book is a link to access additional free French learning packets and subscribe to a weekly newsletter including more vocabulary lists and audio for continued learning! I have found these resources to be helpful and expand my ability to speak French – a bonus I wasn’t expecting when I ordered this book!
I studied French for four years in high school and I actually have relatives that speak the language yet I am still not fluent. I decided to purchase this book to brush up on those skills since it's always great to learn a new language. I settled on this book because it's labeled for beginners and didn't seem intimidating.It's broken down into 15 very short stories along with accompanying audio spoken in French so you can hear the correct pronunciation and tone. There's also a short glossary or vocabulary recap after each story with words and phrases translated from French to English which is incredibly helpful. I found the whole experience comforting and natural almost as if I had my own personal tutor in my ear without all the pressure to immediately get everything right the first time.For those who are new to the French language and/or are great audible learners, you'll absolutely love this. This book has really helped me re-learn parts of the language in a much easier way than I ever did in school. I look forward to more books from Mr. Bibard.
I am a beginner learning French. My nephew has been studying French and I wanted to find a way to learn as well so we can do basics together. I got the kindle version of this with the MP3 and it works really great. I love that you have the audio along with the book to help know what the words sound like. That is a real help for someone needing to know how to get the pronunciation. I didn't find the story very interesting, however this was a learning tool for me so it doesn't matter as much how good the story is.
