Susan Bernardo has been writing poetry and stories since she could hold a crayon! She also holds her BA in English from UCLA, MA from Yale, and teaching credentials from Pepperdine. A former language arts teacher, Bernardo facilitates creativity workshops for adults and stays in close touch with her own inner flower child by dancing, raising cats and chickens, sculpting, painting, tide pooling and taking nature hikes with her two sons.Bernardo co-authored The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm (a picture book to help children cope with grief and trauma) with LeVar Burton. She is a published author - her work appears in All We Can Hold: Poems of Motherhood and The Cancer Poetry Project 2 anthologies. About the Illustrator: Courtenay Fletcher, the illustrator of The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm and Sun Kisses, Moon Hugs, loves using images to tell a story - whether it is through photography, illustration or graphic design. She attended UC Berkeley, received her BFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and embarked on an exciting career as an art director in NYC and Chicago, eventually landing back home in California, where she lives with her family, a rescued mutt and a collection of tikis. I got this to help my niece cope with the death of her mother, but I found it helped me cope with the loss of my sister just as much. It might be written as a children's book, but I've been recommending it to anyone who's lost someone they love. It's especially comforting for people who (like me) aren't religious but need and want something to believe in.

This beautifully written book would be best given to a child by a loved one that will be passing away soon, leaving for a long trip or perhaps stationed overseas. This book has a strong message to look for signs of love everywhere. This was a great buy and I highly recommend!

I'm a child psychologist and I have two boys (ages 5 & 10). Since the time the older son was little, I have been in the habit of putting magic kisses on their knees everyday before we say goodbye. They could then look at their knees during the day and be reminded that my love is always around and in them. From a (former) librarian's point of view, it was always difficult to find books that worked well to explain how, while death separates us it doesn't mean we can't be together in other ways, for smaller children. I found 2 or 3 that I kept on hand that used common images (like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly for instance) to explain death and leaving, but it wasn't easy to find things that explained and comforted without placating or being too cutesy to really help. And, especially with picture books and the under 6 years old crowd, it's a careful balance.This book hits that balance. If a parent, grandparent, or sibling dies, it can be hard to explain to a young child that, although this person they love is no longer physically with them, there is still a way to connect: hug a tree and feel your loved one hugging you back, look up at the moon and see the smile of your dear one returned, kisses sliding from heaven down the rainbow. Sun Kisses, Moon Hugs strikes a delicate balance between being a cutesy read and a heartwarming story that both comforts and gives a smile to the little one reading it.Long story short, I highly recommend this book, for kids under 6, who either are dealing with a separation of some reason (long term like divorce or short term like a business trip or deployment) or for the death of someone close to them.

Resnick provides an amazing overview of past research and his contributions to the value of creativity and creative learning. He also thoughtfully lays out concrete ways that anyone can take his ideas and do something about it. Never felt more hopeful about the future of learning as after reading this book. I also appreciate that Resnick doesn't pull any punches when criticizing views he doesn't agree with. I will recommend this book along with Mindstorms as the two most helpful texts to understanding the ins and outs of creative learning.

I bought this as a required text for a class on educational technology. This author essentially stretched a topic worthy of a periodical article into a small book. If you can get past the author continually patting himself and MIT on the back and the incessant advertisements for Lego, he actually has some good points. Is the subject matter worthy of a book? Yes. Does Resnick do it justice? Not really.

Great book on the need for shifting our education model towards cultivating creativity and away from memorization. Obviously this book is highly relevant if you work in education or have a younger child, but this is also relevant if you have an interest in corporate culture. Lifelong Kindergarten has definitely given me some ideas about how companies can do a better job at creating an environment of lifelong learning.

This is a very brief book that looks at some of the philosophy behind MIT's long-running projects in hands-on learning for kids. If you already work in this space and know the group well, it's a nice short summary of where they are coming from. . If you are a tech developer, you will find the interspersed case study of the development of Scratch interesting, although it would have been good if there had been more discussion of results. In short, a good readable summary of philosophy with a few nuggets of detail, but given less than 5 stars because it was a little more breezy than I had hoped.

Fascinating! Of course this book is "preaching to the choir" for me as I was a homeschool parent whose two adult children are lifelong learners and very creative. I intend to introduce my grandson to the Scratch program.

Sometimes, I struggle reading Mitch’s work because of his style and tone. He’s a man wound up in wonderful ideas and possibilities. Sometimes, this gives the book a feeling of being a step and a half removed from classroom teachers new to this kind of thinking. This is not a primer, and I didn’t want to be. Building on his years of work with Scratch, Resnick brings forward the tectonic views of Seymour Papert, and gives them new breath and perspective. I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the perspective, and I enjoyed the inclusion of the voices shaped by these practices.

Inspirational book about creativity and play. Not surprisingly, there are a lot of references to Scratch (the programming language), and this book made me think about the importance of the collaborative online community of Scratch users - something I've never really appreciated in the past.There are sections titled "In Their Own Voices" which are mini-interviews. I wasn't as impressed by those - I would have preferred to hear more of Resnick's stories about Projects, Passion, Peers and Play from his own experiences.

Mitcheal Resnick's book attract me most about his ideas in HOW to make a kid creative. I mostly agree with his points and I believe these should be the guideline for education, not only for kids, but adults as well.I did not grate it as 5 stars because of all his samples are among Scratch, Clubhouse and Lego. I expect more stories around the world, even around the MIT Lab, such as their studies about Kids interactive with AI technology. I hope his next book will bring us more insight about AI influence on kids education as a lifelong study agent.Any way, this is a very good book for parents to read.

I dove into this book looking for business advice and walked away with so much more. Jessi shares life experiences that are real, raw, valuable and can be applied to both business and life in general. Her perseverance should be studied to determine what her “it” factor is, to allow others who have suffered horrific abuse to thrive as she has. The number of obstacles, setbacks and circumstances she has had to overcome to get Cheekys to where it is today is simply incredible. She has so much to share with such a broad audience. This book will leave you inspired, in awe and wanting to “be pretty”. A must read.

More importantly, it doesn't mention how to analyze in detail a parameter that falls out of the required quality control boundaries after testing takes place.I wasn't very satisfied. The section on audit reports was the only one that seemed useful.

I bought the Healing Lyme book by Stephen Buhner per my doctors orders and I ordered everything in the core protocol as fast as I could.The herbs are working great - yay! I've very grateful I listened to my doc!I happened to order this book though since it's copyright date was 2016 and hearing the latest info from a number of docs couldn't hurt. I'm so happy I ordered it!First, having just been diagnosed with Lyme a month ago, the Buhner book is a bit intense for me. When you're still in shock about having lyme, reading whole chapters on co-infections is the last thing a gal wants to deal with. With this book, it's a much easier adjustment for me. There is less intellectual data devoted to co-infections and more pragmatic info - telling me herbs and tools to get rid of the evil bacteria.Second, every doc talks about herxing as not being a good thing. Buhner might say this too (I don't know). I would have tried to power through the herxing but for the good explanation as to why it's not good and every doc reiterating this. So I'm grateful for that.Another thing, there is a small part of me that wonders if the herbs I'm taking will stop working. But if they do...no problem. I have plenty of backup strategies mine for the taking with this book. Wahoo!Lastly, it's really fascinating how docs will use different herbs and tools to achieve the same thing. I found out detoxing is important...but there are so many ways to do it. I'm creating a spreadsheet with the diff protocols for it and from what chapter...along with the website, etc. It's also fascinating when they use the same herbs, etc.Connie Strasheim - for your next book, can you please do the exact same thing except for yeast/candida/fungus? When I'm off my anti-biotics, I'm going to need that and you do a marvelous job!

Great Book on Lyme Disease. This book is full of lots of helpful information and approaches to Lyme. It is very comprehensive and gives some of the more advanced ideas of today to help really get to the hiding places of Lyme like going to a doctor who uses dark field blood work with a microscope like a bacterial Naturopathic MD for true Lyme Diagnosis, real lab tests that work and those that don't and working with a Licensed Dentist that specializes in Biological Dentistry. Also, discussed things like using doctor done IV Ozone, home Insufflations with Ozone, getting rid of parasites, bio-film and metals and strengthening the heart arteries where Lyme goes to inflame and cause heart issues. I would also add that the author was not aware that now some Biological Dentists (after a CT scan of the Jaw bone) are using Laser's rather then surgery (which is not as effective) to fight Lyme that hides out in the jaw bone and creates nests by dissolving the calcium inside the jaw bone below the teeth. There they continue to re-infest someone who has Lyme further making anti-biotic or other protocols ineffective, till a Dentist with a specialty in this area can go in and do the Laser work to kill the nests and change the ph balance of the Jaw so the Lyme can't or won't likely make nests in that area again to keep someone ill. We did this with my husband and it has made a huge difference. It was expensive, but surgery would have been more so and less effective likely. I also would say that some of the herbal products mentioned in the book are not available to consumer's only to doctors to order for them. However, there are some products as well that are. Also, I think that the author made the book a bit hard to follow because she broke things down by the 10 doctors discussed. So, one has to go through the book and put together their own plan based upon what they can afford and what ideas each doctor shares. The author seems pretty compassionate towards people and the fact that finding a doctor to help you is out of reach cost wise and often anti-biotic use to fight this fails and other types of proto-cols need to be looked at. However, she does advocate that people need to be under supervision and work with a doctor to handle this. I am not so hip on this, while I understand that it is a book highlighting these doctors and what they do, the truth is, that most people are on their own to fix this issue. Good doctors in this are hard to find and cost a lot. The one we found had treatments starting at $4,000 cash up front. It was out of our budget. We had to find a home source for Ozone that was reliable and work on using clay and cilantro for Ionic foot baths to pull metals VS this books 2,000 plus ionic foot bath they talk about and home infra-red sauna (we made our own light for $100.00 and use our bath tub with curtains) for a mini sauna for immune boosting, essential oils for bio-film etc.. The doctor we found was a specialist in bacteria, mold, fungus and parasites who used dark field work and real labs and was a Licensed MD and Licensed Naturopath. He was good for diagnosis, that was it. Insurances often won't help you with Biological Dentistry, IV ozone that works or Colon Ozone Insufflations that you can do at home that do work (which the author says you need a doctors supervision for, but don't really if you do your homework for safety on this), essential oils that work and herbal products which are more effective then antibiotics which can strengthen the bio-film Lyme hides in and builds antibiotic resistance of Lyme bacteria. Overall, great book, worth anyone's time to read and get solutions for Lyme.

I was expecting, I guess a book that was different after hearing the author do an interview with Doug Addison. After reading through five of the ten doctors "ideas" on what Lyme is and is not, I have found myself no closer to an answer to my own Lyme condition than I was before I purchased this book for $29.99. Yes, the author Connie Strasheim interviewed these ten Doctors, but I too could have googled them, to dig into their scientific jargon . 80% of their interview is so not in layman's terms. The idea of one doctor to come and get "their" foot soaking detox remedy at $1200-2400 a pop.... well, please let's get real here. As a sufferer of Lyme, barely getting out of bed at times, where will I get that kind of money to fly to a doctor and then pay for this detox session??? In the five doctors interviewed so far, that I have read so far, no new herbal remedies or information was given that have not been able to dig up in my own searching on the internet. I honestly feel I wasted $29.99 in purchasing this book. If your new to the whole Lyme business, then yes, it will give you information, but very little in the area of hands on, affordable help, for us suffers of Lyme.

If you are loved ones have Lyme disease, this book is a must for you. It gives you all of the details of how to control and get well from this dreadful disease that inflicting so many people in America.

Most of us cannot afford to visit the top ten Lyme doctors in the country, let alone afford to spend hours with them exploring their approach to treating Lyme. I am grateful to Connie for doing all of this leg work for us. The details in Lyme treatment protocols, which these doctors have shared freely with Connie, represent tens of thousands of dollars in experience. This is not only a "must read" for anyone with Lyme or a caregiver, but if you have a local doctor struggling with trying to figure out the complexity of treatment, give them a copy of this book. Mine is highlighted, dog eared and have the margins full of notes. Take it one at a time; read slowly, and don't worry if you don't understand every word. It is all very, very good stuff!

Elizabeth Holtzman is a lawyer and political leader who was Democratic Congresswoman from New York. She served on the House Judiciary Committee charged with investigating the Watergate scandal and prepared articles of impeachment that precipitated the resignation of President Nixon. Congreswoman Holtzman later became District Attorney of Brooklyn, New York, where she prosecuted major crimes, including those political and organized. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and and currently practices law in New York. The Case for Impeaching Trump is very well written, clear, and accessible. Since Elizabeth Holtzman draws upon her experience with the Nixon impeachment proceedings, the reader can understand how impeachment hearings can be carried out in a productive manner that seeks the truth and builds consensus. The book is not intimidating or too technical but makes a strong case why this is am important step for the country. It opened my mind to the necessity of initiating the impeachment process.

Informative, well researched, and well written. Thoughtful insights on the similarities between the present administration's bungling foreign and domestic policy, crony capitalism, fear & hate mongering, and general disarray, and the scandalous Nixon administration's unconstitutional behavior; and the legitimacy of a strong (constitutional) case for Trumps' impeachment. A thoughtful companion read to Republican strategist Rick Wilson's book, "Everything Trump Touches Dies," and David Cay Johnson's excellent, "It's Even Worse Than You Think: What the Trump Administration Is Doing to America."

Elizabeth Holtzman was the youngest woman ever elected to the House of Representatives when she served on the Judiciary Committee and voted to impeach Richard Nixon. Not only that, prior to the vote she was the Committee member who was the most cogent in explaining to her colleagues why Nixon's crimes warranted impeachment. (Think about it. It's as if Alexandria Ocasio Cortez successfully brought her colleagues around to impeaching Trump!).And that--plus her credentials as a Harvard trained lawyer and prosecutor (Brooklyn DA)--makes this book essential to anyone who wonders if President Trump should be impeached. Essential because both the media and most Democrats (let alone Republicans) are virtually unanimous in saying that although Trump probably committed "high crimes and misdemeanors, impeachment is the wrong way to go.Holtzman proves the opposite. Under our system it is precisely the way to go. In fact the impeachment provision in the Constitution was drafted and ratified in order to deal with eventualities like Trump. Holtzman examines everything we already know about Trump's dealings, one by one, and demonstrates that if they don't warrant impeachment nothing does. She also delves into the history of Trump's crimes (including the oft-overlooked violations of the emolument clause) and shows that not impeaching is tantamount to violating the Constitution. As for eschewing impeachment because a Senate conviction is unlikely, that is a bogus argument. Although prosecutors often pass on indicting (which is what impeachment is) because they know conviction is impossible, clear crimes against the American people and violations of the Constitution cannot be ignored because of politics (i.e. the Senate is Republican).The book is also a good read. As a history buff, I loved the excursions back into early American history when impeachment was treated as a remedy to an elected or appointed official's overreach, not as something that should only be employed in the most extreme of cases. Of course, as Holtzman shows, Trump's crimes are the most extreme of any presidents, by far. If he isn't impeached for them, we might as well remove impeachment from the Constitution because if Trump doesn't warrant it, who could?Bottom line for me: Holtzman moved me from impeachment skeptic to someone who believes that NOT impeaching this man would be a crime against the Constitution, with terrible ramifications for the future when, hard as it is to imagine, we may be faced with other Trumps or even worse.For the record, Alexander Hamilton (and almost surely Lin Manuel Miranda!) agrees with Holtzman. He could have been writing about Trump when he said that impeachment is necessary for those offences which proceed from "the abuse or violation of some public trust. They are of a nature which may with peculiar propriety be denominated political, as they relate chiefly to injuries done immediately to the society itself.”The society itself! And Hamilton's own Constitution.This book is a must.

An excellent book.....when young, one is hardly aware of the differences that power politics can make in how realities can be portrayed. While there is a tendency to believe that there can only be one real truth, political experience shows us that there often many sides to a political coin...that truth is all-too-often only in the eyes of the beholder. Politics too often operates at several different levels making "truth" a relative thing dependent on the level of view. It was sad to see the Polish who gave so much to support a higher truth, fall on the horns of a reality that they could not and would not accept. Yalta was a shabby yet real arrangement between men who had their own very different ideas of the "truths" they desired and would hold too. I learned a great deal about real politics and just how difficult it is to live with honor and real sacrifice. In the end, the large laud it over the small and honor is given short consideration all-too-often. The Polish military people who fought so valiantly for a cause that included their own ended up victims of a new reality that left most of them behind. Shameful yet a reality of life. If one lives long enough it is very easy to become very cynical. I loved the book.

I hadn’t realized how skilled the Polish airmen who fought with the RAF were, compared to the initially-inexperienced Brits. I also didn’t fully comprehend how Roosevelt and Churchill so badly abandoned the Polish nation in the endgame of the war, leaving it to the viciousness and cynical politics of Stalin and the Soviets.

As a Polish Refugee (born in a refugee camp in Augusdorf, Germany in 1949 to Polish parents)I was spellbound by this book. As a kid, my parents would discuss the various people named in this book. They spoke of betrayals and how Poland was sold out. I was the “intelligent” teen aged kid who knew more than his parents and couldn’t believe the content of their discussions. I was so proud to become an American citizen that I changed my first name from Henryk to Henry. After all Henryk was just too Polish. Well after reading this book, I proudly tell people that my name is Henryk Pietrzak. Coincidentally, if you google my Polish name, Henryk Pietrzak, you’ll get a picture of a WWII Polish Fighter Pilot who was an Ace. I am not related to him, but I wish I was. He flew as a member of a Polish Squadron with the RAF. I recommend this book to everyone. First, it sets the record straight and secondly it describes true heroism, courage, and honor. I am proud of these Polish Airmen and am embarrassed by their shabby treatment by Roosevelt and Churchill.

I was given a hard copy of this several years ago and am loathe to lend it out. Happily I found it on Amazon in paperback and sent two copies to friends. I am a military historian of sorts having attended USMA and this is one of the best war/political histories of WW2. It covers far more than the exploits of the Polish trained pilots that helped save England in the Battle of Britain. It recounts the Soviet/Polish historical animosity before, during and after the war. It also cronicles the appalling treatment of the Poles as a political football before and after the War. The question of honor applies to both the Polish who upheld theirs and the allies who betrayed them on many fronts.

In this book the authors debunk a number of strongly held myths concerning Poland and her role in WWII. The story is told through the actions of several Polish airmen who served with the RAF in the Battle of Briton but the actions of other Poles both military and non-military aren't neglected. If you read this I am convinced your opinion of Poland and the Polish role in WWII will be profoundly altered. They say history is written by the victors and in this case Russia triumphed once again over Poland. Poland has been portrayed as at best a pitiful backward victim and at worst a mere footnote in this war. Some of the key facts the authors bring to light:* Polish airmen in the Battle of Briton were the true "air aces" at times accounting for 30-40% of the downed German planes. Queen Elizabeth II "If Poland had not stood with us in those days...the candle of freedom would have been snuffed out".* The Polish military men who left Poland (and there were 100,000 of them) after the Nazi defeat in 1939 traveled thousands of miles to get to the Allied lines. Typical travel stories had these men going through Rumania, down to the Mediterranean and then into North Africa before arriving in England or Free France.* The Poles never stopped fighting the Nazis. The Polish resistance forces were deemed the most effective by Allied HQ. No other country in Europe suffered, proportionally more damage and casualties in the war. Poland lost 20% of its population v. 11% for Russia, 7% for Germany and less than 1% for US and Britain.* When people refer to the cities of Europe devastated in the war - London, Dresden, Coventry, and Hamburg, no one ever mentions Warsaw which was leveled when the Poles revolted against the Nazis in 1944-45. An uprising totally unsupported by any Allied help.* Polish spies obtained the Germans' Enigma coding machine and Polish cryptographers helped break the ciphers. This wasn't revealed until the 1970s.* The Free Polish Army under Allied command was the 4th largest armed force (US, Britain, Russia) on the Allied side. Larger than the Free French Army! They played prominent roles in several Allied campaignsI could go on with this list but don't want this review to be too long. This book despite the facts crammed into it reads very well. Individual acts of bravery and valor are juxtaposed with events at the national level. The time period where the Polish airmen were "the Glamour Boys" of England is a great period piece. The first two thirds of the book are inspiring and a fun read as new revelations about Polish military feats are presented. The last third of the book where Poland is excluded and betrayed by the Allies in the post war decisions made at Teheran and Yalta was a harder read for me. The Allies (Britian, US and Russia) insisted that France have an equal share in the post war decisions but excluded the Poles despite their many contributions to the Allied victory. The irony!! Poland who fought to the end sold out and France who barely fielded an army rewarded, ugh. The last comment I'd make is the strong character, loyalty and love of country of the Poles is an integral and moving part of this story.
