The book is missing 2 different sections (23 pages). My brother and I ordered the same book and we are both missing the same sections.

Had to had to had to add Steven Raichlen's latest cookbook to my collection. He is a grill master to top all grill masters. I checked it out from the library 1st, to see if I was really interested in purchasing it. Well, after I tabbed about 70 recipes with post-it page markers, I knew I had to buy it.

Feeling out of place in the modern world? Feeling like You are living in a world that discounts masculinity?This book will put the Neanderthal back in your cooking!Love the recipes. Simple, tasty and it works for a bbq or even over an open campfire.Would give it as a gift to my father. That’s high praise for a man that lived through the Great Depression and who hunted to feed his family.

Very disappointed with this cookbook. Not all the recipes in the series are included. Guess I’ll be more careful with Kindle purchases when it comes to cookbooks from now on.

The recipes in this book are amazing and it also has many great parts about how to cook with a grill or an open fire. Haven’t had a bad thing from this book and would recommend the maple siracha grilled chicken legs.

Do not chose e-books if your internet is DSL. You can not download. Support services were no help either. Went to other locations to find faster speeds. Still unable to download. won't be ordering any more e-books.

This is the third or fourth set of CDs I have gotten, of Pema Chodron either giving a lecture or audio book.While I think that a lot of what is presented is idealized (i.e. bearing witness to someone being abused and meditate rather than intervene), I have found that the more I listen (I usually will listen to one CD repeatedly for a week, while running errands etc in my car, before progressing to the next CD), little bit by little bit I find myself dipping into a lojong practice.I'm a skeptic (generally speaking) and view listening to this in much the same way I view eating chicken soup during flu season: it couldn't hurt. And in the Buddhist tradition of "take that which is useful and discard the rest," I am taking bits and pieces and applying it to my life.And of course, if you're a fan of Pema Chodron, you won't be disappointed. In these CDs she maintains the directness and good humor, for which she is known.

This set of CD's is a logical presentation of the Lojong teachings. But in Pema's style, it contains humor and an approach that western culture can follow. Even with 7 discs, she still had to skip some of the pithy sayings. However, her overview is clear.I found it easier to try putting the teachings here presented into daily practice if I had a corresponding book available. It just helps to have a written reference. There are many books out there, and Pema mentions 3 or 4 that she has found helpful. I used the ones by B. Alan Wallace and Norman Fischer.

This CD by Pema Chodron is amazing. It was recommended by a friend and I am so glad I got it. It is clear and practical explanation of the Lojong teachings.Get it. You won't regret it.

Listen to this a little at a time. It's a little choppy format. The editing is here and there but the points are made. It comes in seven discs.

Love it! I like Pema's experiences and stories about the teachings in her honest, humorous and compassionate lecture style. The small exercises are also very useful in daily life.

Crystal clear Buddhist teachings from start to finish!! Pema never disappoints!!

I’ll cut to the chase: this book is one of the best introductions I’ve seen to the C++ language. I’ve read probably at least a dozen C++ books and I would say this would be the best place to start if you’ve never used C++ or even as your first programming book. There are some great C++ resources out there, but much of the material can be too advanced for a beginner and will probably scare you off before you get anywhere. With Beginning C++ Through Game Programming, Michael Dawson builds your knowledge from the ground up. The explanations are clear and easy to understand and no previous experience is required. You don’t even have to be a gamer to get value here as most of the games explored in the text are simple things like hangman or tic-tac-toe that anyone can understand.Dawson walks you through 10 chapters, each diving into a different aspect of the C++ language, starting simply and working up to more difficult topics. The chapter breakdown includes: types and variables, branching, loops, the STL, functions, references, pointers, classes, dynamic memory, and object-oriented programming. These topics really are the most fundamental building blocks of C++, and many are applicable to programming in any language. Lots of source code is shown, and the author explains each step along the way with an impressive amount of clarity. Even though I’d consider myself an intermediate to advanced programmer, I still found some things useful in this book, particularly the usage of the const keyboard which was always somewhat confusing to me. All the examples are simple command-line programs, so you don’t need any special libraries, just an IDE that can compile C++ code, such as Visual Studio which has a free version on Windows. If you use a different operating system, you can just get whatever free IDE you want for your platform as this book uses all standard C++ code so any compiler should work.What I have found reading other books is that they may explain concepts well, and even show code, but sometimes either they don’t give enough context on how real usage would look or the examples are so complex as to be confusing for a novice. In this text, the author is clearly aiming to teach beginners and explains everything in concise terms without becoming too complex. In each chapter, there is another full example game shown, which could be typed into a computer and run. I did not actually test any of the code, as I’d rather just learn from reading, but I didn’t find any obvious errors. Each of these games are fairly straight-forward, with apps like guess my number, hangman, madlib, tic-tac-toe, etc. My one complaint is that the final chapter covers a full blackjack game, and this was much more complicated than the previous chapters and may be a bit too advanced. However, it still may be helpful to some to see what a more involved program might look like. While the title of the book is about “game programming” I wouldn’t say you need to be a gamer to gain insight here. Though having some interest or familiarly with games can help, I’d still recommend this book for anyone interested in C++ or just wanting to learn programming in general. The author manages to cover the most key aspects of the language without burdening beginners with the more arcane constructs that will likely confuse you.Keep in mind, C++ is a beast of a language, and one book will not make you a pro overnight. After reading this title, you will still likely need other resources before you are ready to build your own apps or games. With gaming in particular, you will likely also need to learn how to use libraries, various APIs, etc. and none of that is covered here. So think of this as merely a light introduction, which will build a foundation your can bring to other more complex books. That said, I really can’t imagine a better book for people wanting to get started with programming in C++. This would work as a great first coding book for teenagers or even younger. I’m not sure there is a better beginning C++ book out there, and this is highly recommended.

I've been programming on and off for about 4 years now mostly in Android development. I've recently turned my eye to this book which I bought about two years ago(and never cracked open) because I want to start playing around with the Unreal Engine and Game AI. I skipped all of the basic programming concepts which I am very familiar with (whats a variable, operator precedence, for loops, etc) which is practically chapters 1-5. The second half of the book gives a beyond excellent introduction to the characteristics that distinguish C++ from all of the other languages I have experience with(C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, Swift). The examples are thorough and the author speaks in a straightforward manner. The example code is clean and concise and really drives home the point of each concept. I'm on chapter 9 / 10 right now and after reading this far I feel confident reading any programming tome/tutorials with examples in C++ and applying them for my own purposes. Definitely recommend for any beginnersI read through all of the 1 star reviews and all of them were unwarranted because the reviewers bought this book expecting it to teach them how to program a game. I bought this book in 2 or 3 years ago.As a student in university, I was learning about game design and development. and I had very little experience scripting with ActionScript 3. I wanted to get more into programming, so I decided to go ahead and start with this book. This book does an exceptional job teaching you the basics of coding. If you have little to no experience with code this by the end of chapter 5 I promise you you will be very comfortable read and writing code (with limitations of what you have learned). It contains very easy exercises that get you thinking about the code and by the end of each chapter you can rest assure that you will become very familiar with the content you just read, and not just that the code is well written and it pushes you to write good code.Bonus:By the time I was done with the book It was easy for me to transition from C++ to C#, C, objective C and swift. so if you have the time and dedication I highly recommend this book.

I absolutely love this book. I have always wanted to understand how games are made and decided to begin learning C++. This book not only is easy to understand and teaches well, but it is focused on the very subject I want to learn C++ for. You actually feel like you are learning useful material (though very simplified). It also has end of chapter questions without answers that really challenges you to write or re-write a program to solve the answer. Believe me it can be frustrating but when you finally solve those questions there is a large amount of joy, excitement and a desire to continue learning. I would highly recommend this book to anyone just beginning to learn C++ to better understand game programming.Truthfully I can not think of any negatives.

This book is a great introduction to C++. It's also a really good book on C++ for people who are already C programmers. It's an easy read, it goes at a good pace, and is full of relevant code examples, which are explained line by line. I particularly liked the section on vectors and STL containers, but it is all good. I have no real interest in game programming per se, but we've all played (and probably coded) tic tac toe and hangman etc. at some point, and these games provide excellent opportunities to put the various C++ features to work. If you want to create games with fancy graphics, then this probably isn't the book for you, but if you want a solid, hands-on, quick and easy introduction to C++, you might want to try this book.

If you have lived the hockey life the language in this book will make you feel at home. A wonderful and exciting read.

Both my sons and some of their friends have read this book. For teenage boys, reading is not always the preferred pass time. This book changed that. We've also picked the next book Face-Off... Another great book for boys. The story lines are good and are peppered with hockey to keep the attention of my hockey playing sons!

My preteen sons both LOVED this book. Once they started neither could put it down. The both play hockey and loved that it was a part of the book. They are starting Face Off as we speak. One thing we didn't like was the language. It was a little bad for our taste could have still been the same book without the bad language.

My 13 year old hockey playing son has severe dyslexia. Getting him to want to read anything is a challenge. He loved this book. It took a while for him to read, but when he was finished he wanted to know if there where any more books like this one. Any book that has him asking for more books gets 5 stars from me! :)

This book is very thorough. The Jewish people are amazing. Everything they have gone through and they are still fighting and they still are standing strong. We are going to be using this at our ladies bible studies. I am going to order this book and the Time Chart of Biblical History and the book Then and Now Biblical Maps. They are going to be a gift for one of my best friends. This will probably be in about a month.

This chart is full of very good information. It was made well and is a good value for the price. I especially like the metallic inks they have taken advantage of in making these charts. It looks rich and of decent quality, and the paper seems sturdy enough for years of use for my wife and I to look things up as needed.

This book contains so much information. As a visual learner, it is a great tool to be able to see the history laid out in such a linear fashion. Puts things in perspective so much easier. Being used as a learning guide. Recommended to others.

This is a great aid to understanding Jewish history. Love the way it shows you what happened when along with other things that happened then, too - or later - or before. It gives you perspective and is a terrific aid to understanding. I'm going to give it to several friends with teenagers. It will add to their spirited discussions of Jewish history.

I have known Thad Vogler as a friend and colleague for well over fifteen years. We have worked closely together at multiple stages of our personal and professional development in and around SF and abroad. With each passing year, after hundreds- if not thousands- of interactions with purveyors, distributors, customers, chefs, distillers, and other bartenders, a philosophy began to take shape that would ultimately define what Bar Agricole stood for upon its opening in 2010. This book is an attempt to share a bit of that guiding philosophy with folks who may not have the opportunity (or the luxury) to immerse themselves in what we research, taste, debate and discover for so many hours of every week, every month and every year. It is not a bar book per se, in the sense that there is very little information about recipes (since there are already enough cocktail recipe books in the world, many of which we find to be indispensable i.e. The Savoy Bar Book, Old Waldorf Days, The Fine Art Of Mixing Drinks, Charles H Baker's Gentlemen's Companion, William "Cocktail Bill" Boothby's American Bar-Tender). Rather, By The Smoke And The Smell is more akin in spirit to Adventures on the Wine Route by Kermit Lynch, Reading Between The Wines by Terry Theise, or even The Book of Tea by Okakura Kazuko. All of which are books that make the reader feel like they have been invited to participate in a discussion with the individual author about their guiding principles, the ideas that excite them, and the people in the field whom they admire most, and take away a whole new understanding of the topic, while simultaneously being charmed by the unique wit and the sly self deprecating humor that Thad possesses.

A terrific read for any who appreciate fine spirits, and for those who distill and serve them. This book offers closely observed detail and insight into the craft of small-scale traditional distilling. Vogler’s careful descriptions are a lens that sharpens our understanding of the differences between artisanal distilling and the massive-scale production of spirits. In his descriptions of his own discoveries, Vogler educates the reader about the history of the spirits we drink. His accounts of artisan production of armagnac, mezcal, rum, whiskey and bourbon enable us to taste the origins of these venerable spirits. He is equally engaging in his exploration of his working relationships: not only his relationships with colleagues but also those with customers, producers, and distributors. Vogler’s candid and compelling descriptions of himself, his colleagues, and his companions on these pilgrimages add a human dimension to the meaning of ‘spirits.’

My favorite book of the year so far. I had expected to find a poignant and thoughtful portrayal of the spirit industry, and maybe a little window into how Thad Vogler gets all of the ridiculous spirits he serves at his bars. I did not expect this to posses such honesty, humor and suspense. This is a piercingly truthful portrayal of a life in service, the relationships that sustain us, and the characters that make this life valuable. It has the irreverent wit and humor of Anthony Bourdain, and reminds me of Michael Pollan with its eye-opening attention to the agricultural truths of the products we consume. It was so much fun to read, and I recommend it with total confidence to anyone who cares about travel, spirits, agriculture, or the service industry.

Loved this funny, poignant, passionate and informative journey through the eyes of a master storyteller! I carved out an afternoon at the beach to immerse myself in this story that isn't only about the world of spirits, but the strong ties of friendship, camaraderie and a passion to find those special spirits that have been cultivated by families with stories to tell and food to share! Appreciate the emphasis of your journeys to find those gems that embody the best spirit of "farm to table" in the cocktail world. I feel that I know all of the travelers and had many laugh out loud moments. I've already recommended it to several colleagues whom also appreciate the depth and history of their spirits. Great job Thad!

A "spirited memoir" of world-wide travels in search of authentic artisan-crafted spirits to accompany honest, locally-sourced foods. Thad Vogler, in eleven chapters, describes the origins of unique and genuine distilled drinks from French and Spanish brandies (calvados and armagnac), Cuban and Dominican rums, Scottish whiskys, Oaxacan mezcals, and Kentucky bourbons. He introduces us to the farmers and distillers at the source, bringing them to life with vivid writing. The smells of dew on vineyards, wood fires, and barnyards weave through the chapters as Thad and his partners from Bar Agricole and other bars and restaurants search for honest spirits that they can use with the same integrity as their carefully selected foods. In places, the search reads like poetry, supplying the reader (and presumably the eventual taster) with the romantic and history-filled stories that suffuse lovingly-made drinks. In other places, the characters are rugged and dangerous, plucked from a pirate novel brandishing clubs and knives. We know from the fact that he published his book that Thad survived, but we are gripped with worry for his companions. Sometimes I dreamed of being able to go along on the trip to taste and smell and meet the people, and sometimes I was glad to be safe sipping a Cadenhead's bottling of Bowmore single malt in my armchair. What we learn about Thad is that his passions and influences are like the essential elements in a distilled spirit. The experiences and people mix and age over the decades to form a well-crafted, complex, and satisfying philosophy.
