If what you are looking for is the most basic, non-technical introduction imaginable, you'll surely be happy with how readable this is. But the potential buyer should be aware that that is what this is. And I do mean basic. It took less than ten minutes to read it "cover" to virtual "cover." There is almost no technical information here beyond the wire-length-to-frequency formula, and nothing that is not freely available on a great many amateur radio websites. It omits information that is covered in the other three volumes of the series, so it has limited use as a stand-alone volume, and it's $18 for the four-volume set. That's more than 1/3 the price of the paperback edition of the venerable ARRL Antenna Book, which runs to nearly 1,000 pages and includes a CD with searchable text. If you are looking for more than a beginner's introduction, you may want to save your pocket change for a few weeks and spring for the big book.

Excellent and informative book. I would recommend to any radio amateur that is looking to improve their antenna. I bult two. Antennas and both play very well.

Good basic book that just about anybody who had studied the technician and general ham radio tested should be able to understand.

Good for beginners, bud I think is a basic compilation of basic information of antennas, mi opinion is you can find more technical information for free in internet.

Before you start this book, please note it is a continuation of the author’s Amos Decker Memory Man series. I would start with the first book, Memory Man, and then read the rest of the series in order before this edition or you won’t make much sense of the characters and situations.Bottom line is if you enjoyed the previous books of the series you will enjoy this one, also. Baldacci picks up where he left off with the cast of characters and does his usual good job of changing the twists and plot lines: I stayed up really late with an unsuccessful effort to finish it because I didn’t want to put it down. I recommend this one for those who have enjoyed the series, and I’m ready for the next installment.

We all acknowledge David Baldacci is a master storyteller. This book exemplifies how an author can spin a story like a tapestry, and let it unfold at its own pace. Amos Decker and his partner are visiting her sister in Barronsville, PA, a small town. Amos stumbles into a crime scene, and what unfolds is a harrowing story that takes in today's headlines, the opioid crisis, and takes Decker and Jaimieson on an epic investigation that leads to some surprising conclusions. On the way we they make some new friends. And enemies. In the end, Amos finds himself more in touch with his humanity than since his injury, and Baldacci shows us humanity and kindness in the middle of sorrow and loss. This was a great book, and interesting investigation, and showed Amos Decker making progress in regaining a degree of his humanity he has not known since his injury and the subsequent loss of his wife and daughter. Baldacci, like Brad Thor, Lee Child, and Ted Bell, invest a lot in inventing their characters. We have an emotional stake in them as well. This, my friends, is as good as it gets.

What an incredible, heart-grabbing, mind-blowing mystery! Amos Decker, along with his partner, is supposed to be on vacation at her sister’s place. Jamison understands Decker’s uniqueness and has a great platonic working relationship with him. While they are there Decker observes some rather disturbing sights in a house that he runs to investigate. Jamison knows there goes the vacation as she refuses to sit on the sideline while Amos chases down leads. Plus, within a short time, the mystery embroils her sister’s family when her husband is killed while at work.Jamison’s 6-year-old niece loses her father on her birthday and that just grips the heart of Amos in so many ways. If you have followed the Memory Man series, you know how this touches Amos very deeply and makes him face some of his own personal losses again. Readers familiar with the uniqueness of how Amos thinks and works will really enjoy the way David Baldacci has Amos going through some neurological changes. These changes cause Amos to think long term and wonder exactly how long he can keep working without losing what memory he has left.The ending of the book is very touching, and I absolutely loved the way its is written! I hope this isn’t the last we see of Decker and Jamison as I enjoy them working together on solving crimes. Zoe, the little girl in the story, really grabbed my heart and I loved how it drew out the heart of Amos. The mystery was top notch and many surprises are in store for those who venture into the book. You don’t want to miss this thriller!If you haven’t read Amos Decker in the Memory Man series, start with the first book titled, Memory Man and catch up in the series before the next novel is released!

This installment in the Amos Decker/Memory Man series was somewhat of a letdown. Carrying far too much complexity with far too many one dimensional characters, I’m afraid that this work “The Fallen” appears to be an idea in Baldacci’s mind that seemed to get rushed onto paper far too quickly without the advantage of proper pre-thought of how seductive it might appear or appeal to the reader. This got way too complicated way too fast with far too many characters doing far too many things and with virtually none of them registering on the interest scale. What could have been an interesting plotline turned into an amalgam of killings followed by page after page of explanation of what we’d just read. It was like Baldacci organized his story-line index cards, wrote the book to these and then realized, “Hey, this is pretty complicated, I better insert some explanations along the way.” And the absolute worst part was the very end when all the survivors gathered together for a final “let’s explain all of the aspects of this entire book” session, much like at the end of each of the Scooby-Doo episodes…I kept expecting Shaggy to interject some benign point followed by Scoob uttering “Rutt-Rooww.”OK, it’s not entirely that bad but it is a far cry from the initial Memory Man. We start in Baronville, Pennsylvania with Amos and his partner Alex Jamison on vacation, visiting Alex’s sister. And this is another “bone to pick” with Baldacci…he’d ended the previous Decker book with an enticing note of impending romance between these two and the notion of them on “vacation” together gives the reader hope of this relationship advancing. I’ll stop you right there…there is NO ADVANCEMENT one way or the other in this book, NOTHING! Whether Baldacci does this on purpose or not, we’ll have to wait for the next installment.Baronville is a rundown, post-industry town with a serious opiod problem. One evening Decker discovers a series of murders and his “vacation” turns into an investigation. Through an, again, unusual and complex series of events, we learn of the town’s originator, the family of John Baron the first and of an alleged treasure left behind when he died at his mansion high up at the town’s outskirts. Intrigue, dubious and sinister characters, drugs and murder all get interwoven into a plot that only Decker seems able to figure out. Going far beyond his “memory man” capabilities here (in my opinion) he’s able to determine all angles and all outcomes in the end, most, it seems to me, by just educated guesses. I had to re-read many paragraphs just to understand what had been uncovered at that particular point and by the end, I just gave up, actually skimming through most of the explanations because I found that I didn’t really care anymore.There were some heartwarming moments admittedly…Decker shows a new side of himself when he deals with Alex’s niece, five year Zoe, who reminds him of his own daughter. But the overall vibe here is that this is a book that was just so rushed and un-edited that it does a dis-service to the character. We’re used to a certain quality with an Amos Decker work and we definitely do not get it here. And gauging by the reviews here on Amazon, Baldacci can only deduce that he’s still striking the right chord, which is a shame…I really wonder how many of these positive reviews aren’t emoting their true feelings. I know that I totally loved the previous three in this series and it’s difficult to pan this work, but it’s necessary…this is definitely not a great book.

This was an intense read through out. Loved the ending. Amos becoming compassionate and empathetic added depth to his character. I was so disappointed in Baldacci's last Will Robi novel that I almost didn't buy this one. This book is the Baldacci that I have enjoyed for many years.

I've been studying narcissism for quite a while and thought I knew everything there was to know by now. I rarely write reviews but I'm so impressed by this book, I can't recommend it enough for anyone who has suffered abuse by a narcissist or is trying to get out of an abusive relationship now. You deserve the best and more... so I strongly encourage you to get this book!

Where to begin? This book was life changing. it completely validated everything from my experiences (suicide, anxiety, depression, "neediness", literally everything. It took every detail from my past struggles and validated and helped make sense of everything. It's like I was reading my own biography. The book is organic and engaging, and ever word becomes apart of your healing. I'd recommend this read for anyone who has ever dealt with abusive parents, abusive friends or partners, or just being manipulated in general. I cannot begin to thank the author enough for that this book has done for me. Her experience and guidance is something that has defined my life.

I ordered this book after I sat in my vehicle in 90 degree heat recently in the parking lot of my job on a Saturday night. I could no longer be at the house with this narcissistic abuser I have been living with for 20 years. I could at least pick up some WiFi in the parking lot. As I sat there watching Youtube videos until I thought it was safe to go back to the house, I came across a fantastic video posted by this author Shahida Arabi discussing the importance of knowing what you can do to reclaim your life after narcissistic abuse and all the signs and symptoms of PTSD. I have been looking for a supportive and honest therapaeutic book to help me, and this is it. It is saving my life and instrumental in guiding me through the process of no contact. She knows this personality disorder from the beginning to the end. I wish I could thank her in person. Thank her for giving me the insight and validation that victims need to move forward in the process of healing from the nightmare of this type of damage. I wish I could have read this sooner. Highly reccomend this book.

This book should be required reading for teens or young adults before they begin any serious relationship. I wish I had read this years ago! This book opened my eyes to toxic behaviors I was experiencing in relationship. I now know the red flags to look for so I don't make excuses for others' toxic behaviors, and so I don't allow myself to be subjected to the ongoing and recurring emotional abuse and trauma that these behaviors inflict.

This is an amazing read for anyone who has lived through the experience and survived narcissistic abuse. I wish I could buy this for all the people who ever discounted, invalidated or dismissed my experience as well. I feel that this book will be an asset to my healing and recovery from the abuse!

I have spent the last three years throwing myself into every kind of self help and development program I can to try and heal, but I found myself bumping up against an invisible wall I couldn't describe or understand. After starting therapy earlier this year I learned I had emotional trauma resulting from emotional abuse. From that I began my search anew and discovered this book. The emotional peace and freedom I have gained from this book have impacted me far more than anything else and I finally feel I have the understanding and language to describe what I have been going through.The author has the approach of a survivor, someone who intimately understands what I have been trying so hard to understand myself and could never describe to someone else. She speaks from the same emotional places of hurt and recovery I need, and I can almost feel her nodding her head along with my own wounds and comforting me. At the same time as she speaks subjectively, she includes the relevant research from therapists and specialists in the field, providing links and references to support everything she speaks about. Ultimately combining her approach-ability and comfort with hard facts.Ultimately this book helped guide me to where I can confidently say..."Abuse shaped the victim I was. I shape the survivor I am."

A large part of recovery from narcissistic abuse is understanding what happened and the different ways it can greatly affect you. This book is a great insight into the different types of manipulation as well thoughtful ways of healing and loving oneself. I'm glad I found this book.

Great book for anyone with a true narcissist in their lives. The trauma can be difficult to understand and move past and this book helps you to deal with your conflict. Helps you to understand that your self doubts constructed by the narcissist are not real.

In this case, the Hays translation is the hardcover, while the authors who translated the paperback and Kindle versions aren't specified. I am sincerely pissed that I was not provided a copy of this as a kid growing up. I have devised a work around to the whole "Not growing up with a father figure" issue. I have decided that Marcus Aurealis is my actual father, and Socrates is my great uncle and Thales is my grand father. I realize this sounds nutty to read but I honestly feel more in common with these thinkers then the absent XY chromosome donor.

I don't know who did the translation for this one but I found it very difficult to follow. This prompted me to look around and I found another translation by George Long (Thoughts of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus 1862). Even though it's not a recent translation, Long's version is often easier to understand. Compare the translations of the first paragraph for example:This version:Of my grandfather Verus I have learned to be gentle and meek, and to refrain from all anger and passion. From the fame and memory of him that begot me I have learned both shamefastness and manlike behaviour. Of my mother I have learned to be religious, and bountiful; and to forbear, not only to do, but to intend any evil; to content myself with a spare diet, and to fly all such excess as is incidental to great wealth. Of my great-grandfather, both to frequent public schools and auditories, and to get me good and able teachers at home; and that I ought not to think much, if upon such occasions, I were at excessive charges.George Long's version:From my grandfather Verus I learned good morals and the government of my temper. From the reputation and remembrance of my father, modesty and a manly character. From my mother, piety and beneficence, and abstinence, not only from evil deeds, but even from evil thoughts; and further, simplicity in my way of living, far removed from the habits of the rich. From my great-grandfather, not to have frequented public schools, and to have had good teachers at home, and to know that on such things a man should spend liberally.Having said this however, it's still worth comparing both translations which are free on the Kindle.

My husband has been diagnosed with early dementia and I have been fretting over losing everything we have if I eventually have to place him in a Nursing Home. This book helped me to understand how Medicaid works, which is truly something to avoid IF you can. Over and over the author advises that you cannot get through the maze without a good Elder Law Attorney. I had already seen an Elder Law Attorney and he had immediately set up a Durable Power of Attorney and new Wills. That is supremely important as stated in this book. The Attorney had also advised me to have him apply for Medicaid IF we ever needed it. He said it would cost us money but that he would save us SO much in the long run. After reading this book, I understand what he was saying.... and I see how important it is. I have been so stressed about the "five year look-back" thing and learned that it applies to "gifts". Now I know there are many other techniques that the law will allow that can be implemented at the last minute. The Attorney will know how to get through that maze. What a relief. I hope we never have to go the Medicaid or Nursing Home route - but if we do - this book has eased my stress level considerably.

This book was so helpful. I had a parent who was denied coverage by DHS for Medicaid. Using the info from this book, I educated myself and requested a Fair Hearing with our state. With the application for the Fairing Hearing, I sent a 2 page letter (using the information I gleaned from this book) outling the issues I had with the denial my parent received. Prior to the Fair Hearing, an attorney from the state called me to let me know they were reversing DHS' decision and my parent would now be covered. The Fair Hearing was no longer needed. I am so thankful for the authors and this valuable source of information.

My dad had a stroke. He survived and we had so many questions regarding his care and finances. We had no idea where to start. Someone recommended this book. It was expensive for a book but I needed answers and direction. Since reading the book I have a basic grasp of definitions, terminology, and rights that come into play. I am hiring an elder attorney to further advise us. But you will save money if you enter the lawyers office with knowledge of what this book offers.My dad isn't extremely wealthy but has saved enough to be comfortable and we want to make his money go the furthest and in my opinion, this book pointed us in the right direction. We ordered similar books that deal with the same subject but were inferior to this one by a long shot.

The book is expensive. The book is so informative, I soon forgot what I paid for the book. This information is just what I needed, all gathered into one book. Clearly written in terms most people can understand, with examples as well. The chapter titles are clear, with references inside each chapter. This book is a larger paperback. I like this, so I can use a highlighter and paperclips. Now, I know, which way I want to go, where to check on things, and what kind of lawyer I need. Thanks again.

My wife bought this book because one of her aunts was showing signs of dementia and her husband could not take care of her. He had his own physical problems. This book helped us plan for the day the Aunt would be placed in a nursing home and apply for Medicaid.Note: Most of Medicaid is regulated by Federal law. However, some states have their own little rules and requirements. At least this helped my wife know what questions to ask after reading this book.

Can't help being complicated and a bit ambiguous, since the laws regulating Medicaid long term care qualifications are subject to many interpretations, and are administered by each individual state, whose rules dictate not only a variety of limits, but interpretations, as well. All in all, a pretty good primer for those who are married, and therefore must prepare for the probable expense of nursing home care, and the devastating fiscal consequences for those who don't understand the basic means to protect their assets from being rapidly depleted.

I have absolutely no knowledge on this subject. What I have read here was informative and did answer some of the questions I had and let me know there were other questions I needed to ask. I checked on a few comments validity with my lawyer and he agreed with them, which is a recommendation of its own. This book let me know what I need to be aware of and what to have in place for the future. This was purchased with a couple of other books on the same subject and I recommend all of them.

This is an excellent book on helping to protect your assets from nursing home costs.....but you'll still need an attorney that specializes in elder care. Be sure to read the reviews that are posted with this book....it's too much to go into with this note.
